Thuso Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, and Tosin Cole to Star in Paramount’s Children of Blood and Bone

The highly anticipated adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling YA novel, Children of Blood and Bone, is coming to life on the big screen. Paramount Pictures has announced that the film will hit IMAX theaters on January 15, 2027.

Thuso Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, and Tosin Cole will lead the cast in the action-packed fantasy epic, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Woman King). The story, set in the magical kingdom of Orïsha, follows young Zelie (played by Mbedu) on a quest to restore magic to her people and challenge the tyrannical rule of King Saran.

A Star-Studded Cast

Alongside the leads, the ensemble cast features powerhouse talents, including:

  • Viola Davis as Mama Agba
  • Cynthia Erivo as Admiral Kaea
  • Idris Elba as Lekan
  • Lashana Lynch as Jumoke
  • Chiwetel Ejiofor as King Saran

Additionally, Regina King, Diaana Babnicova, and Bukky Bakray are in talks to join the cast, while an open casting call in Nigeria is set to find more actors to complete this vibrant lineup.

A Global Phenomenon

Published in 2018, Children of Blood and Bone has captivated readers worldwide, selling nearly three million copies and spending 175 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list. The trilogy, known as the Legacy of Orïsha, has earned accolades as one of the Top 100 Fantasy Books of All Time.

Prince-Bythewood, who is co-writing the screenplay with Adeyemi, expressed her excitement:

“I am so honored and excited to bring Tomi’s Children of Blood and Bone and the vibrant world of Orïsha to life. Our incredible ensemble reflects the whole of the diaspora. This is where our magic lies.”

The film is produced by Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen (Twilight series), Karen Rosenfelt (The Devil Wears Prada), and Matt Jackson (Molly’s Game).

Production Begins Soon

Filming will commence in South Africa in the coming weeks, promising to bring Orïsha’s breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural elements to the screen.

With an extraordinary cast and crew, Children of Blood and Bone is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated fantasy films of the decade.
